The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a covered street in the centre of Milan, built in the 1870s. Two arcades cross in the shape of a cross, and above the crossing a glass dome rises almost fifty metres.

Set into the floor beneath the dome are mosaic coats of arms of four cities. The bull on Turin’s arms comes with a custom: put your heel on a certain spot and spin round three times, and you will return to Milan. The mosaic has been worn into a hollow and is repaired every year.
