The Colosseum

The empire's main arena: gladiators, animal lifts and stands for 50,000 people. Children get into it through stories of the fights, not dates.

A vast route that adults cover in four hours and children manage in two — if you go looking for stories and animals in the frescoes.

The metro has three lines, but the centre is easier on foot. With a pushchair, take buses and taxis.

Kids tours in Rome in Russian

Kidster runs nine programmes in Rome: quests around the Colosseum and the historic centre, tours of St Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums, Leonardo's workshop, a gladiator school and cooking workshops. All are built for children aged 4 to 16 and run in small groups of up to five.

The tours are led by Russian-speaking guides who live in Rome. Booking goes through a manager, who confirms the date and explains the payment terms. Museum entrance tickets are paid separately, and your guide will say in advance which time slots to buy.
