About the tour

The mission: uncover the Vatican’s secrets and report back to the Swiss Guard.

No dull dates and no long lectures — just riddles, stories and things worth knowing at school and beyond.

How the tour goes

Your family is called to the Vatican on an urgent mission. With the guide, the children become agents and crack the secrets of the basilica and the square step by step.

During the tour the children will:

  • find Nero’s heart of stone and make their most impossible wish — following special instructions
  • find out where a whole neighbourhood next to the Vatican disappeared to, and who was behind it
  • learn where the white or black smoke over the square comes from, and why the Pope does not address people from inside the basilica
  • uncover the secret of a masterpiece by the great Michelangelo
  • with Raphael and Bernini as their guides, find where death itself is hiding in the basilica
  • climb the tallest dome in Europe, with all of Rome spread out below

What you will see

  • St Peter’s Basilica
  • St Peter’s Square
  • a masterpiece by Michelangelo
  • works by Raphael and Bernini
  • the dome and a panorama of Rome from above

Who it suits

  • families who want to see the Vatican without dull lectures
  • children who love riddles and mysteries
  • anyone who has already seen the Vatican Museums and wants to see the basilica itself

How to prepare

  • Follow the basilica dress code: shoulders covered, trousers or skirts below the knee — for adults and children alike.
  • Bring an identity document: you need one to enter the Vatican.
  • Wear comfortable shoes — the way up the dome is on foot.

The guide can meet you at your hotel; the tour then starts from that moment, and the taxi to the Vatican is paid separately.

What is included

250 € for a group of up to 5, plus 20 € for each additional adult or child.

Included

  • a private tour just for your family with a licensed guide of the Vatican and the Holy See, 3 hours

Not included

  • tickets for St Peter’s Basilica, paid separately; no Vatican Museums tickets are needed
  • the Vatican Museums — there is a separate Vatican Museums quest tour for children
  • ice cream and drinks at the stops
