The tour is built around the story of a boy who had everything — a palace, toys, sweets… and who realised that people still fall ill, grow old and grieve.
He left to look for an answer — and became the Buddha, the Awakened One.
This is not a religious lecture.
It is a very warm, lively and interactive tour about meaning.
We begin by climbing the staircase guarded by the Nagas — the mythical serpent-dragons.
On the way the children will:
At the top we talk in plain words about three of the Buddha's ideas:
Life brings difficulty
We suffer when we cling too hard
You can learn to be calm and kind
I tie it to what they already know:
A small practice
The children try sitting still for 30 seconds and simply listening to the sounds.
Then we talk about:
what they heard
whether staying still was hard
It is training for the mind — like a gym, only for the brain.
The statue of the Golden Buddha
The Naga staircase
Bells and lotuses
The places for blessings
Two panoramic hills looking out over the town, the port and the islands
On the second hill we set the task “Find the best view”:
find the port
find the islands
find the tallest hotel
A photo challenge works well here.
Who Siddhartha was and how he became the Buddha
Why the Buddha sits so calmly
What the Nagas stand for
Why the Buddha's smile is so gentle
What the bell is rung for
Why lotus candles are lit
Why birds are released
And why giving and sharing are about lightness inside
The main idea for the children:
Buddhism is about kindness, awareness and understanding your own feelings.
Comfortable shoes
Water
Light clothing
A readiness to think, feel and notice.
A gift
At the end of the tour every child gets a keepsake —
This is a very warm, interactive and memorable tour.
Children leave it with more than photographs — with a thought they take away with them.
